Mick Connell

Creative Advisor

Mick served as Adviser for English and the Arts in Rotherham between 1991 and 2010. He then spent ten years as English and Drama tutor in the School of Education at the University of Sheffield. His principle interests are in literature and in Drama/ Theatre Studies. Mick worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company on its ‘Stand Up for Shakespeare‘ education programme. He was instrumental in the introduction of the Schools Shakespeare Festival in Rotherham.

For some years Mick served on the board of Theatre Company Blah! Blah! Blah! and led the Company of Teachers’ programme with them. For the past five years Mick has been a Trustee of Chol Theatre and Arts Company and has been involved for some time with the Imaginary Communities programme with Chol.

Mick led the BFI short film initiative in Rotherham which supported the development of film and media education practice in Rotherham schools.

Mick is delighted to be playing a part in the Imagine Rotherham programme and is looking forward to celebrating the creativity, learning and achievement it will generate amongst Rotherham’s children and young people.
